There is nothing like a good theme to set the tone for a memorable holiday party. From clothing, to music, decorations, food and drink, a theme helps tie together the main elements of a party and actually makes planning easier. Mad Men, for example, the Emmy Award-winning TV drama set in New York City during the 60’s, lends itself to a stylish retro theme.
As with any good party, the details matter. Guests can dress to impress in glamorous 60’s clothing. Retro decorations can be found on eBay or at thrift shops to help invoke the sophisticated 60’s vibe with minimal cost. Maybe you can find an old (or new) metallic Christmas tree and trim it with multi-colored light bulbs. Set out your best crystal glasses and your rarely-used linen napkins. Music is always important at parties, so make a play list of some favorite songs from the 60’s, such as hits by...
Everyone seems to be eating more eggs these days. Most people are trying to cut carbs and
increase their protein intake. Eggs are also great for your grocery budget since they are
relatively inexpensive for the protein they provide.
My family loves eggs, especially when they are made more interesting with the addition of meat, vegetables and cheese. Our favorite way to make them is to create a no-recipe casserole and bake it in the oven. This method allows hands-off cooking, so you can go back to bed for an hour, or go to church, or read the Sunday paper for example, without having to tend the eggs like you would if you were making an omelette. Also, they reheat relatively well, so you can make it on the weekend and have it for breakfast or lunch during the week.
A casserole also allows you to clean out your deli drawer of any leftovers like bacon, sausage,
The term “Personal Chef” is becoming more common these days, as our society continues to get busier. As a mom and business owner, I know what it’s like to spend your day juggling picks ups, drop offs, emails, dog walks, laundry, meetings and everything in between. This is why my industry exists.
I became a Personal Chef to help people get nutritious food on the table without having to add another chore to their ever-growing to-do lists.Because, unlike other tasks, eating is non-negotiable. We may fall asleep before folding the towels or put off mowing the lawn until next weekend, but feeding your family homemade meals isn’t something you can take care of whenever you have time. And, let’s face it, takeout isn’t really a healthy or even satisfying alternative.
After a long day, there’s nothing better than coming home to a kitchen that smells like garlic, roasted chicken, pot roast or a...
I love this time of year. The mornings are a little cooler with just a hint of the fall weather to come, and the produce is still abundant in the farmers' markets. My all-time favorite is a really juicy peach, (more on those another time!), but coming in second is the lowly zucchini. There are just so many things you can do with it and it doesn't even feel like you're eating veggies!
I am obsessed with my new Paderno Spiralizer and chances are if you stop by at dinner time I am using it - mostly making zoodles out of zucchini. I'm trying to cut back on grains and it's a great way to have spaghetti and meatballs without any carb guilt! You just saute the cute little zoodles in a little olive oil and salt and pepper (or you can get fancy and saute some diced onion and/or garlic along with red pepper flakes as well). You can eat them like this, add some shredded...
I love cooking beautiful, healthy meals that bring the whole family around the table. And, sometimes, I love to just go for it! I believe that living a balanced life is all about moderation. In a well-rounded diet, nothing should be lacking, especially the chocolate!
I slightly adapted this Monster Cookie recipe from The Ultimate Southern Living , and my friends and family can’t seem to get enough. Whether I’m invited to a pool party or a cocktail party, the host always requests a batch. I’m delighted to oblige because making people happy with food is why I do what I do. And nothing makes people happier than a homemade treat.
With each bite of this decadent dessert, you experience a sweet symphony of flavor. From chocolate chips and M&Ms to a special kiss of butterscotch, these cookies are truly irresistible. Whip up a batch (or two) for your next summer gathering—or when s...
